We recently reported on a new OxygenOS OTA update for the OnePlus 5T and spoke about how the company still has yet to unify its software for the two devices. It's still unclear if that is something they will be doing, but today they have announced a new OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 5. While this update doesn't come with the camera improvements that the OnePlus 5T just received, it does include Android's October security patches and a number of bug fixes.
This new OTA update of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5 will bring your device up to version 4.5.15, and it is currently being rolled out incrementally. This means that a small number of OnePlus 5 owners will be receiving the OTA update today. Then, as time passes, the company will expand the OTA update to include more and more people. This gradual process will continue until the rollout has been made available to everyone who owns the device.
As mentioned, a big highlight of this update is Android's October security patches. We reported on this a couple of months ago and while it's sad to see OnePlus is two months behind on security patches for one of their 2017 flagship smartphones, at least it is being made available. Although the WiFi KRACK vulnerability was fixed with the November security update, OnePlus claimed that an earlier OxygenOS update already addressed the issue.
This OTA update comes with more than just security patches, though, and people who have been experiencing issues with GPS may have their issues fixed with this new OxygenOS update. OnePlus also received complaints from people who were trying to share an emoji from Bitmoji. This issue has been fixed as long as you're running this new version of OxygenOS. There were also some people who were unable to set a customized alarm ringtone. This bug has been fixed, along with other "general bug fixes" in this latest update.
